For the past few months, the release date of Marakkar has been one of the most talked about topics on social media. The choice of Antony Perumbavoor to sign the rights for OTT platforms has been widely discussed, and the government has had to step in to help solve the problem. Despite being one of the most expensive films ever shot in Malayalam, the Kunjali Marakkar film received mixed reviews. This film featured Famous celebrities like as Mohanlal, Pranav Mohanlal, Keerthy Suresh, Sunil Shetty, Arjun Sarja, Manju Warrier, and many others
Well, it’s likely that the main reason isn’t a fan fight or film industry politics. This was an average film with an odd budget in my opinion. Despite the fact that this film is not a cult classic, filmmaker Priyadarshan has attempted to incorporate some of his legendary sequences. Here are some of the factors that may have influenced your decision to enjoy or dislike this film.
Why you should Watch
1) Cast
As we all know, the cast of Marakkar arabikadalinte simham consists Mohanlal, Pranav Mohanlal, Keerthy Suresh, Sunil Shetty, Arjun Sarja, Manju Warrier, Prabhu, Suhasini, Kalyani Priyadarshan, Ashok Selvan, and others. When it comes to big-budget movies, the cast is crucial. The majority of the actors looked impressive in their roles. When they were playing their respective characters, everyone had their own charm and charisma.
2) Visual Effects
Kunjali’s story cannot be told without showing us the ocean and how he became the lion of the Arabian. When it comes to describing certain moments, visual effects are vital. There’s no denying that this is one of, if not the finest, visual effects ever seen in an Indian film. This film demands to be seen on a bigger screen.
3) Stunt Choreography
The battle sequences, particularly those that take place on ship, are one of the main parts where we expect more action. Stunt director has pulled off some of the finest action scenes in every moment that demands action. These action sequences give the picture a remarkable quality with their stunning graphics and effects.
4) Acting Performance
Another reason that makes us want to see this film is the cast’s great performance. Apart from the fact that they are well-known in the film business, Hareesh Peradi, Siddique, and notably the late actor Nedumudi Venu, played outstanding roles in their respective roles. The physiques of Suniel Shetty and Arjun Sarja contribute greatly to the film’s reality. All of the other performers performed an excellent job portraying their respective characters, and Pranav did show off his park over skills on a few occasions which was really pleasable.
5) Production Design
Considering that this is a prehistoric drama, the majority of the area we should observe must have suitable aesthetic and convincing objects and backdrops. Sabu Cyril, who is known for his work on Enthiran, Baahubali, and Ra-One, has not let us down with his work here as well.
6) Costume Design
The costumes in this film are extremely important, especially when the film portrays a significant historical character. However, the costumes may not be the same as they were in those days, but they worked perfectly and had a convincing appeal, which added to the movie’s aesthetic pleasure.
7) DOP & Editing
From the first frame of the film, I was convinced that it would have some of the most memorable shots and moments. The majority of these details were clear from the trailer and teaser for the film. Even if the frames and scenes are fantastic, if the editing is sloppy, the entire film would be dull, but the editing here was outstanding and added to the overall beauty of the film.
Why you shouldn't watch
1) Dialogue
Given the fact that the film was entertaining, there were times when I felt that more convincing dialogue could have been used. Except of those few portions, I thought the dialogues were OK, but overall they felt mediocre, and at times I even thought no research had been done when writing them.
2) Average Script
The entire film depicts various aspects of Kunjali’s life beginning in his adolescence, yet it fails to grasp the audience’s attachment with the character. This might be the result of weak screenplay writing or crew working relationships. In either case, it seemed quite simple for a big-budget film.
3) Character depth
After the intermission, rather than giving depth to an important character, the film focuses on different events that took place during that period. It was also loaded with cameos and guest parts of notable artists. This might be the underlying reason why so many people felt disconnected from the characters.
4) Inspired shots and scenes
Many features of today’s films and series are undoubtedly influenced by others. However, there were instances when Priyadarshan tried to recreate scenes from his own films, which did not turn out as planned. ( Comment down if you found any )
5) Emotionally Detached
I thought the movie moved at a steady pace, with the first half of the film establishing the plot and the second half attempting to immerse us in the characters emotionally. As it turned out, aside from the fact that the second portion of the move was emotional, I was unable to connect emotionally as the background score intended. It might be the lousy dialogue delivery and poor screenplay.
6) Underdeveloped female characters
This film would never be complete without the presence of female characters. Yet yet, the female leads were not properly acknowledged. Although there was one point where the narrator told a Romeo and Juliet sort of story, it seemed completely unrelated to the overall plot of the film since the narrator failed to connect the two. Overall, there aren’t any memorable female characters in this film.
7) Political correctness
For a movie like this, checking for political correctness is absolutely irrelevant. The director of this film, Priyadarshan, has stated that history is not accurately depicted in this film. Personally, I wouldn’t care about historical accuracy because it could detract from the overall experience of the film.
